Petket companion evolution: XP, rarities and three forms
All 32 released companions have three forms. Invite one to travel with you, then earn 10 XP for each different word recalled correctly without help or errors. Meet both the cumulative XP and different-stage requirements to reveal the next form.

Choose one travelling companion
Open Companions and select a spirit you have befriended. Invite it to travel with you before starting the next practice. Each companion keeps its own word and stage records; a single run credits its chosen companion.
Changing companions preserves the previous one’s growth. You can revisit a cleared chapter with another companion. Choose before entering the stage: companion selection and evolution are locked during an active run.
Compare the evolution requirements
| Rarity | Form 2 | Form 3 |
|---|---|---|
| N | 200 XP + 2 stages | 600 XP + 5 stages |
| R | 300 XP + 3 stages | 900 XP + 6 stages |
| SR | 450 XP + 4 stages | 1300 XP + 8 stages |
| SSR | 650 XP + 5 stages | 1900 XP + 10 stages |
| UR | 900 XP + 6 stages | 2700 XP + 12 stages |
These are cumulative targets from the first form, not XP to spend. Both columns of the relevant target—XP and different completed stages—must be satisfied. Evolving into form 2 keeps the XP already earned towards form 3.
A higher rarity needs more growth. Rarity does not add a separate evolution charge. The profile and companion overview show the selected spirit and its progress towards the next form.
Which attempts earn growth?
- Recall a different word independently for this companion: +10 XP.
- A demonstration, answer help or an error in that attempt does not count as independent recall.
- Each word counts once for each companion. A later clean recall attempt can fill a missing word.
- Clear different stages together to build the stage total; repeating the same stage does not add another different stage.
- Wordbook review can add eligible words, but it does not add completed stages.
Practice remains available after a word has been credited. The growth indicator measures game progress; it does not certify exam readiness or a language level.
Reveal a new form when ready
- Open the selected companion’s profile.
- Check the XP and different-stage progress.
- When both targets are complete, use the evolution action to reveal the next form.
Evolution happens one stage at a time and is triggered by the player. The first form is visible even before you befriend the companion. Only the second and third forms remain question marks until unlocked. Making mistakes, taking a break or changing companions does not remove earned growth.
Some later story stages require the one-time pass, but evolution itself does not consume paid currency or duplicate companions. Check the parent guide for the current free-stage and pass details.
Common questions
Can the same word give XP to two different companions?
Yes, on separate eligible attempts while each companion is selected. Word credit is stored separately for each companion.
Does evolution spend XP?
No. XP is cumulative. The next form becomes available when both the XP and different-stage targets are met.
